Dwellings of the Galadhrim

Galadhrim dwell on wooden platforms called telain (Sindarin, singular talan), or "flets", built high in the branches of trees. These are fairly unique to Lórien, and were conceived of long ago by the Silvan Galadhrim. The first telain were built as lookout posts and refuges in case of attack, though telain later were considered to be permanent dwellings. Shortly after the year 1100 of the Third Age, Amroth became the first Sinda to live in a talan when his home was built in the branches above Cerin Amroth. Nowadays, the talan is the standard living structure for all Galadhrim; in fact, the name "Galadhrim" ("Tree-people") is a reference to how we live in trees.

Most telain are simple. The standard design is a wooden platform (perhaps made of mallorn wood) with no walls or railings, accessible by a rope ladder. A light, movable screen is commonly used as a wind blocker. The largest and most elaborate talan is that of Galadriel and Celeborn, which has an entire house built upon it. This kind of talan is rare, though the gathering talan of a Great House or guild may be of this type.

ICly, your elf probably lives in his or her own talan, though OOCly, we do not normally build private living spaces for players. See +ELF POLICY TELAIN for more information.
