The Ivonwin, the Maidens of Ivann
The Ivonwin are the Maidens of Ivann (known as Yavanna in Quenya): the bakers of lembas and the tenders of the secret field that yields the grain used to make this life-restoring bread. As by elven law only the Maidens themselves are allowed to enter this field, handle the grain, or even learn the art of making lembas, the ways of the Ivonwin (singular: Ivonwen) are unknown even to other elves. Some claim that they perform a rite of spring in which new Ivonwin are welcomed into the field and taught the songs of the seasons-- but for non-Ivonwin, even this rumor is shrouded in mystery.
