Taliron
TITLE:
Hir Nos Elerrina (Lord of House Elerrina); Hirlin a Mirdan (Mastersinger and Jewelsmith) The Knoppers Thief
DESCRIPTION:
This one is as fair and timeless as a star piercing the evernight.
As a lambent flame he is lithe and tall, moving with a grace unhindered by the fabric of the world. His hair is a fall of starlit shadows cut about his shoulers, dark but for one errant silver lock. Ageless youth burnishes the fine-boned beauty of his face, ancient wisdom leavens his clear sight, and both are transfigured in the passion of his grey eyes. They are lucent with a light forgotten in the world. It touches the curve of high cheeks, the cadence of his lips, for in his voice is music, and in his hand is strength.
This day he is dressed in riding robes of darkest blue cut to allow the space for swift movement, clinched with a silver tooled belt from which a sword is slung. Over this he is mantled in a long cloak of dove-grey of the finest weave. Only one other adornment does he allow himself: a beautifully wrought golden ring upon his right index finger.
PERSONA:
HISTORY:
Their cries still echo down the long unrolling of the Ages of time. They sound in the distance, past the rising and falling of cities in Middle Earth, past the drowning of green lands, beyond the curve of the world into the Immortal West.
Their dim shouts gain resonance as misty isles fall away, waves pound on eternal shores, and Swan Ships sail into the white harbour of Alqulonde. It was there in that far memory a young lord of the Noldor both kept and broke the promise of his life. The thunder and the sword song broke upon the Teleri of the Havens, his mother's kin, and Taliron was lost in it. He fought with his kin against his kin, and in the break of metal and flesh he learned a terrible grace in war, ever wounding but never killing, even to the end when he chose to accept a death blow from a Teleri lance rather than strike his own.
Yet he did not die. In time he healed from his grievous wound. He dwelt in Nevrast by the sea, and later journeyed with Turgon to build Gondolin in memory of Tirion. Turgon had not forgotten the sword-art of Taliron, grace leavened with mercy, and of the lords of Gondolin he chose Taliron to be his Herald. One of Turgons trusted captains, he led part of the Gondolindrim host in Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Yet Taliron was not lone renowned for his skill with the blade, for he was a skilled smith and singer, and fair were the songs he sang before the throne of the High King.
For love of Idril he aided in the preparation of the secret way that she designed, for he delighted in craft though he was not one of the smiths swayed by Maeglin. Thus he proved his worth though he ran a perilous course, for Maeglin suspected him of a secret that Idril designed, and spoke against Taliron to the King. Yet ere Maeglins poisoned counsel should prevail Morgoth unleashed his wrath upon the Hidden City.
