Laurarien

TITLE:
Hiril Nos Finarfin (Lady of House Finarfin)

DESCRIPTION:
Golden hair, amber eyes...fair, and light as the dawn is the slim elven woman. There is strength, though, under her fair skin. A heart shaped face, with high cheekbones and a strong chin is tempered by fine bone structure to give her features a strong yet delicate beauty. This same beauty is echoed through the rest of her form, and augmented by the grace of many years, each movement planned and so looking as if a dance. The quiet soprano of her voice is musical, with a lilting, archaic accent, and fits her well. Her hair is a mane of molten gold spilling to her waist. It's loose, save for silver combs that keep it from her face. It ripples about her with her least movement, or breath of breeze, silk inhabited by sunlight and brought to life.

Dressed for utility, she wears breeches of soft doeskin tucked into pathfinder's boots. Her blouse of linen is loose about her, the long sleeves tied close at the cuffs, and more ties at the vee neck. It tucks into the breeches and the wide belt that holds them. A broad belt circles her waist, the leather tooled in a pattern of flowering vines, and buckled by a simple brass buckle. The belt is weighed down by a dagger on the right and a longsword on the left. The sheathes are decorated with a twining pattern of leaves and vines similar to the pattern on her belt. The blades are plain but very well made, the tools of a soldier. In her hand is a yew long bow and a quiver of arrows slants across her back. The leather quiver is decorated with the same pattern of leaves and vines.

PERSONA:
A relatively recent comer to Imladris, Laurarien took up residence in the Valley some 20 years ago, after spending most of the 3rd age in self-imposed exile from her elven-kin. A scion of Finarfin's line, she yet has many, though distant, kin in the Valley. Mercurial, Laurarien's mood is changeable. Often merry, there is often a serious message under the jesting words. She is an archer and scout of some renown, known most recently for her role in the demise of the dragon Goldeneye.

HISTORY:
Fathered by Aegnor, and named Romiriel, 'daughter of the morning,' she was born just as Anar the sun rose for the first time upon middle earth, just hours after the elven host crossed the Helcaraxe. Known for her daring, and thought by many who dwelt in Aegnor's keep of Minas Aeluin to be rash, Romiriel was often following the scouts and warriors out as they kept watch through and past the hills of Dorthonion.

Romiriel and her remaining family fled Minas Aeluin just ahead of the Dagor Bragollach, joining her uncle, Orodreth, at Tol Sirion. From there they went with Orodreth to Nargothrond. Life in Nargothrond was comfortable, though filled with talk of war, and constant watch, and patrols, and weapon training and battles. To the dismay of her mother, Romiriel wished to be much involved. It eventually took an order from King Finrod to Romiriel to keep her in the fortress. However, in time, Nargothrond too was lost and Romiriel and her mother again were forced to flee.
They joined Gil-Galad in Balar, and went with him to Forlindon, where they dwelled throughout the second age. There, as in Nargothrond, Romiriel wished to be part of the great events, but her mother, having lost so much, refused and kept Romiriel close. She tried to follow the host to Eregion, when Elrond went to aid the elves there, and founded Imladris. But she was found out, and sent home. Later, when the War of the Last Alliance was fought, Romiriel again secretly joined the host. This time she was not found out.
Romiriel fell, wounded, in the battle of Dagorlad before the Black Gate. Confused and dazed by wounds and the fell magics Sauron had unleashed, Romiriel wandered away to the north. Thus began her sojourn through the lands of Middle Earth through the third age.
Ashamed of her failure and too ashamed to go home, Romiriel wandered widely, travelling the Anduin valley, Gondor, and across the Misty Mountains into Arnor. Taken in by villages of men, now and then, she aided them by hunting, or in her growing skill as a scout. Small tales grew up of of the pilgrim elf, or the lost one. Much of her time was spent in the north, aiding the men of lost Numenor against the Witch King.
The Battle of Five Armies drew her in as it did so many others. Fleeing orcs stumbled across her hiding place, and attacked. The band was small, fortunately, and she was able to best them, but she was sorely wounded in the fight. Seen fighting by the Eagles, they told the elves of Thranduil, who sent rescuers. Romiriel took a new name during her convalescence from her wounds...given by the Eagle who spotted her, Laurarien he named her, Golden-sunrise, for they thought to find only death there in the wastes where the orcs fled, but even at his great altitude the Eagle saw the sun on her hair.
