When in the company of others, the amiable Gwaerhir is contented to listen and observe, though he is not short of words when he needs to express himself in his tenor voice.

HISTORY:

Tis said that Imbtharbad a Nos Narthanaer favours his Sinda grandfather even though Silvan blood flows through his veins from his Laiquendi mother. He is the youngest son born to Foeirnin and Eirien, the couple being blessed with two others.

His maternal grandfather, Radorad were among those Silvan elves who had been drawn to Ost-in-Edhil in Eriador, seeking to learn more from the Noldor, finding an affinity with the stones and metals of Middle Earth. His mother, Radorad's only daughter - Eirien - motherless from birth, learnt to appreciate her father's love of stones, precious and otherwise and started an apprenticeship under his watchful eye. When Sauron brought war to that region, only Eirien escaped to Rivendell where she grieved long but finally found comfort with the bold Foeirnin a Nos Narthanaer.

Foeirnin, Imtharbad's father, is the only surviving son of Second Age elves who had first followed Talamir from Doriath and then Talamir's son onwards to Rivendell. Fiercely steadfast and loyal to Elrond, Foeirnin serves in the garrison that protects the last Homely House. It was there that he met Eirien; and there, where comfort developed to love and finally into bonds of marriage and a family. Eirien retained her father's fascination with the Noldor and continued crafting with stones while Foeirien found fresh motivation to defend Rivendell.

Both parents passed on their love of their craft to their elder children, Ethuitelil and Foeiredwin but Imbtharbad's path led a different route.

A tale told by a Hirlir of the "Great Eagles, the spirit messengers and protectors of Manwe. The spirits who could 'see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world. Thus they brought word to him of well nigh all that passed in Arda' " drove all desire to follow his father's path; the words striking a spark within the young Imtharbad. Then he saw his first Great Eagle and his heart was riven by love. For many years after, through his youth and into his adulthood, Imbtharbad worked quietly to improve his command of languages as well as his knowledge of winged creatures that danced and commanded the sky under Anor's watchful warmth.

Falcons had long dwelled in the steep cliffs that bounded the hidden valley where the First Homely House was founded by Elrond in SA, 1697. With close proximity and exposure to Rivendell and its denizens, these peregrins developed an affinity for the elves and changed; becoming more intelligent and gradually they were taught to act as go-between to the Great Eagles. The peace that came after Sauron's defeat at the end of the Second Age was disrupted with renewed unease around TA 1100. That was when Imbtharbad stepped forward to ask to serve these winged messengers. Deftly and affectionately, he cared for these smaller feathered 'cousins' on the higher grounds that surrounded Rivendell, but these raptors did not displace his fierce passion for the descendents of Manwe's messengers. Yet he was contented to be an observer, remaining in the background. To watch, feed, and care rather than be one of those who interacts with the Great Eagles. This contentment was jarred in TA 3034 when an unknown infliction killed most of the falcons that lived in Rivendell and forced this elf to reconsider his distance from his passion.
