Ilfwen

TITLE:
Arferedis a Gwaerhiril a Tellenistril, Arphedil Nos Teleralda (Expert Huntress, Falcon Warden, and Tracker, and Retainer of Nos Teleralda) -- Boarslayer

DESCRIPTION:
She is a tall, slender elf with perfect deportment. Blonde hair tumbles down like a sheet of liquid gold to hang just a few inches above her shoulders. Small, pointed leaflike ears peek out from amidst the sea of gold. Her full, pale lips usually seem just a moment away from curving up into a smile. Her eyes are jewels of sparkling blue-green, like sunlight hitting the water in early morning, set in a lean face with a glowing complexion. She wears simple clothing to roam through the forest: a rich green velvet tunic and a pair of earthen breeches, the whole ensemble often stained with mud and grass. Dark leather boots fit snugly on her feet, and a small black belt with a pattern of dancing leaves encircles her thin waist. On the index finger of her right hand is a thin silver band, set with several small jewels evenly spaced all the way around the ring.

PERSONA:
Ilfwen is a very cheerful elleth who spends most of her time in the woods. She is the last person one would ask for current news around the valley, for she always hears about things after they've happened. Ilfwen is, for an elf, also slightly clumsy, but she takes this in stride, and most people might find it merely adds to her charm. She was once given a hunting puppy by a human hunter who was a guest in Imladris, and now he's a full grown dog who is almost always close by her side.

HISTORY:
Daughter of the Rivendell elf Hargam and Mirkwood elf Cristwen, Ilfwen was born on a seldom-used path that led to Rivendell. From the time she was a small elleth, Ilfwen was expected to follow in her mother Cristwen's footsteps. Cristwen, a multi-talented harpist and singer, taught Ilfwen to sing and play herself, but eventually realized that Ilfwen's heart was not in her singing.

Now without the burden of music lessons, Ilfwen was free to decide what she wanted to do. Part of her, she knew, yearned for danger and excitement that singing could not give her. Ilfwen undertook archery, teaching herself (with a little help from Hargam) to shoot. Ilfwen also had the joy of a baby sister, Rochwen, whom she watched grow with pride and happiness. Soon after Rochwen's birth, another girl, Aelin, was born. Eventually, a fourth and final daughter, Ranwen, was born to Cristwen, and the ellith were delighted by this new arrival.
Still, Ilfwen was restless with a longing to gain more expertise in her archery. After argument and much persuasion with her mother, Ilfwen was allowed to accompany her father, an amateur hunter, on an expedition in the forest surrounding Rivendell. However, what began as a dreamy walk through the trees turned into a nightmare for Ilfwen as she heard the sound of two arrows whizzing past her head. The flying objects sank themselves into Hargam's chest and he fell to the ground, leaving Ilfwen alone in the forest with her bow and an unseen predator. Later, she would return to the valley the victor of her first battle with an orc, her face painted with sorrow despite the victory, for she bore her father's lifeless corpse.
Hargam greatly influenced Ilfwen's final choice of occupation: she became a skilled huntress and tracker, and afterward, bid her mother farewell as Cristwen journeyed back to her homeland in Mirkwood. With no small amount of guidance from Ilfwen, her youngest sister Ranwen also became a huntress. Ilfwen belongs to House Teleralda, like her father did, and has kept a cheerful outlook in life whenever possible during her thousand years so far, spending most of her time with her beloved sisters in the valley.
