Feandril

TITLE:
Saeleth Nos Earendil, Hirbarvasson o Imladris, Tindain (Counsellour of House Earendil, Head Librarian of Imladris, Toymaker)

DESCRIPTION:
Tall and slender, of light frame and upright posture is this lady you look at. A silver clasp holds most of her dark braided hair away from the delicate line of neck and cheek, a face of ageless beauty, softly drawn features, though something indicates strength like steel behind the gentleness.

She is clad plainly, in a dress made from soft white cloth; a tight bodice that falls almost onto her soft leather boots in wide skirts. For all the simplicity of this attire, she wears it with almost regal dignity. But for a thin band of gold shimmering on her right hand, she does not appear to wear jewelery.

But more striking even than the beauty of her face and gracefulness of her movements are her deep green eyes. Ancient they are, though glinting with a hint of youth's mirth; piercing, yet gentle; sparkling with an energetic light mingling reflection and something that is entirely theirs at all times, like the reflection of stars in a deep pool.

PERSONA:
Not too much is known about the specifics of Feandril's past, though it is common knowledge that she was a scholar even before the sun first rose and was born on the shores of the Falas in Beleriand; one of the first to come to Imladris at its founding. She is addicted to the written word; as Head Librarian of Elrond's library, she watches over the preserving of books and knowledge.

Loved especially by the younger inhabitants of the Valley, Feandril seems to be eternally cheerful in their company. Her hands are rarely ever idle, nearly always busy with a piece of wood, a book, or some other task she finds for herself. She is a constant and faithful friend and quick to laugh and jest, even though there is a thoughtful streak beneath her mirthful bearing. Something that makes her an able counsellor to the Herdir Elrond, who holds her advice in high esteem.

HISTORY:
The beginning of Feandril's tale is lost in times now long past, and there are few now who know her origins, or of the games she played as a child in the twilight years.

Still, some things can be inferred.

A white tower on the shores of the twilit sea was Eglarest, the southern of the two Havens of Cirdan the shipwright which was built on the shores of Beleriand by the Falathrim, home to a people of mariners and ship-builders. A pair lived there together who had two children, a daughter and a son. It is said that he was a shipwright, and his lady a bard... and this may well be the truth. He named his daughter, his eldest child, born in a newly founded Eglarest in the years before sun and moon, Eluiwen. But his wife, in sudden foresight, gave another name to her daughter. Feandril, brilliance of spirit, she was called in the city of Eglarest.

Her mind was in lore, in tales and stories, and even in her youth she began to collect all that she could lay hands on, writing down that which had not yet shape and form anew. The moon rose, and the sun, and both cast brighter light on her labours... and deeper shadows. Some say that she first met Gilathan at this time, and that he was apprenticed to her father, and that their long story began even then.

But no light is without shadows and no youth lasts forever and innocence is often destroyed. Who now remembers the fall of Eglarest and Brithombar? Who remembers black feet on the white coral strands, fire in the proud towers? None, save perhaps her husband, now know the full tale of Feandril's grief at this time.

On the Isle of Balar, the name Feandril soon was no longer spoken. It is whispered that Eluiwen took up a sword, despair and rage battling in her heart for domination and that she spent the rest of that age with the weapon in hand. Tears are salty, like the water of the sea, and the age ended, and she fled, again, fled to Lindon this time.

NOTE:
I had no time to hate, because
The grave would hinder me,
And life was not so ample I
Could finish enmity.

Nor had I time to love; but since
Some industry must be,
The little toil of love, I thought,
Was large enough for me.
