In order to have a well defined, you'll need to sit down and decide what your history is. The most important thing about a history is that it gives your character a frame of reference from which to look at the world. So it is important to include any significant events which affected your life. Start with your age place of birth, and when/why you came to Imladris, and then you can figure out what big events may have happened during your lifetime. It should eventually include who is in your family, what you do and why you chose it, and any special ties you have. Your history does not have to be a certain length, we are not grading you. It just has to give a good summary of who your character is. And, it can grow as you gain "real experience" here. If you need any help with ideas just ask anybody, particularly the local admins.
Remember, not all elves are orphans. It isn't good to have all elves with parents who were killed by orcs or who have already passed over the sea. You don't have to have tragedy in your life in order to build a good character. Elves are family bound and are not loners for long. They are not battle mongers in general. They will never, ever serve or support Sauron. Think about traits: honor, compassion, impulsiveness, curiousity, etc. We strongly encourage you to create familial ties with anybody who is willing to form a family with you and work out your co-ordinated history.
