IMNEWS POLICY ROMANCE
An IC romance is a popular diversion and plot line. Keep in mind, though, that as an Imladhrim you are not a human with a human life span. You're an immortal elf who, even if slain, will one day be reborn. Elves marry for eternity, for even should one spouse die, the marriage is considered still to be in force. The perspective of an elf on romance is, therefore, VERY different from a human's.
When elves fall in love and marry, they do so forever. Elves love for life: their _immortal_ life. The practical effects of this are manifold. Elves do not 'cheat' on each other. They do not desire another even after the death of or sundering from a spouse. There are many examples in Tolkien's works of the sort of love elves have. Look, for instance, at Elrond and Celebrian, or Turgon and Elenwe for examples of elven marriages sundered, where the spouse staying in Middle Earth remains faithful yet to the dead or departed spouse. In fact, even should one spouse 'die' and enter the Halls of Mandos, or pass to the West, the elves consider the couple still wed, the marriage still in force, since one day all those sundered by passage to the West or by death will be reunited.
