IMNEWS POLICY RECRUITING
One of the biggest responsibilities we have as players is helping those newer or less knowledgable than ourselves. Remember...someone helped you out when you were new...give it back. If you ever encounter a new player who is interested in Imladris for their culture, do your best to give them a hand. If they wish to visit, Imladris can be reached by the 'portal' in the OOC Recruiting Room. All the new player needs to do is type 'VISIT IMLADRIS,' and they will be teleported to the Imladris OOC room.
Once in the valley, they are free to wander around, but be certain to point them to the various resources that we as a culture have: and the library resources, in addition to NEWS THEME for players unfamiliar with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. We also have several recruiting tools in place for anyone to access: +INFO IMLADHRIM and NEWS CULTURES IMLADHRIM, as well as the posters in the recruiting room in the OOC complex.
However, there is a fine line between assisting and recruiting. In general, we discourage active recruiting (approaching OOC or uncultured players with the intent of steering them towards Imladris). Although helping new players is encouraged, let them come to you, and not the other way around. As one of the more populated places on Elendor, we don't need to be grabbing up new players that might otherwise have ended up joining one of the smaller cultures. Each culture has a special part to play in the Tolkien-based world Elendor offers, and every player who joins a culture has the potential to contribute greatly to that purpose. And what's good for the MUSH is, in turn, good for Imladris. The more orcs there are, the more enemies we'll have to fight, for instance.
Besides, the ultimate goal is for each player to end up where he/she will be happiest in RP. Often times, no one is a better judge (ultimately) of where a player will be happiest than the player him/herself. :) We should all aim to provide the assistance and guidance to help new players make that decision for themselves, not make it for them.
