IMNEWS ETIQUETTE

IC hints about etiquette:

Elves are reasonably formal in public and are unlikely to address or speak publicly of a superior by first name, using titles instead. Similarly, they are likely to rise and bow when Elrond or another high ranking elf enters the room, to show their respect and appreciation for him. They are not, however, domineering or overawed when dealing with elves of different ranks, and the lowliest elf in Imladris would be quite comfortable sitting in the Hall of Fire telling jokes with Elrond. Rank and file elves will have fierce loyalty for their lord and house, a loyalty returned by higher ranking elves who will go to great lengths to protect them and be sure they get justice.
Elves are likely to be elaborately polite (when they are not overcome by fits of gaiety) and would be most unlikely to engage in nasty arguments in public, or to confront someone they disagreed with directly. The more intense sort of conflict is usually resolved through the use of go-betweens.
