The Evil Wood (Yfelwyd) is inhabited by trolls, orcs, and bandits. However, a few--a very few, but a few--honest folk scratch out a living here. Shepherds, passing traders, and so forth do live in the area.

As a result, rangers passing through the Evil Wood must be careful. Not only do you have to avoid ambush by orcs and trolls when you can, but you must try to distinguish between human bandits and innocents. Therefore, you should not attack humans you encounter in the woods except in the presence of IC information positively identifying them as bandits or other evil-doers. Possession of a weapon ICly is not sufficient information: as dangerous as the Evil Wood is, only a fool would go unarmed.

However, if you are attacked, or if you come upon bandits and ICly overhear them planning raids, or sneak up on bandits lying in ambush, you should attempt to remove them. Since we lack prisons, courts, and the numbers to control the area, that will normally mean driving them away or killing them through combat. If their numbers are too great for you to handle, it will more likely mean keeping your distance and gathering information for a later strike.
