The subject of female Rangers in Arnor is one that has been much debated; indeed, women fighting has been a subject of debate MUSHwide for quite some time. Here in Arnor, women are allowed to be Rangers more as a concession to OOC sensibilities and equality than any canonical evidence.

Tolkien's women were not fighters, with a very few exceptions. That holds true on Elendor as well, in many Human cultures. However, to allow for those exceptional players who possess the theme knowledge and RP ability to shine, women have been Rangers for a number of RL years.

That is all well and good for OOC considerations, but what about ICly? ICly we are still bound by the conventions of Tolkien's creation; to whit, a female Ranger is quite an aberration. Gilraen devoted her life to raising Aragorn, and such is our example for Arnorian females; they are the caretakers of the bloodlines of Númenor, and are few enough in number to warrant protection from danger.

That said, a female Ranger would be viewed as what she is: a woman who has chosen a life of Rangering instead of bearing and raising children. No one can tell you how to RP this. The choice of extremity is yours. Your character can be violently against women even touching so much as a broken arrow shaft, or just mildly curious about what would drive this woman Ranger into battle. It all adds to the vast dimensions of Arnor RP, and should be looked upon by both male and female players as a challenge to character development. In other words, fun. That is the name of the game, after all!

The challenge to players of female Rangers is mainly to answer th question "Why?" What drove this woman of the Dúnedain to take up a sword? Why should she be accepted into he ranks of the Rangers of the North? How will she cope with the disapproval or indifference of some of the Men she must fight with? These are all things to consider when writing your character's background. It can be more difficult to write a history for a female Ranger than for a male, just because of these considerations, but if you've been accepted to Arnor, you are certainly up to the challenge.
