The titles used by the Arnorian rangers follow this pattern:

     Military titles exist at three ranks. Aragorn is the Chieftain of the Dúnedain. Below him are the Captains, of whom Halbarad, the Captain of Arnor, is foremost. Below the Captain are the Rangers of the North.

     In addition to their military title, rangers may in time earn an informal addition. This is called a by-name, and it must be earned ICly. For example, Forantur's title was "Ranger of the North, the North Sword," which spoke to his ancestral holding of the Northern watch of Angmar. Tara of Arnor's title was "Ranger of the North, the Dagger-Tongue'd," because of her fearsome wit.
