Here are the mostly combat related restrictions imposed on the culture by the players and LAs that we uphold, and new Dúnedain always ask about. Just a note to those who will read these for the first time as Dunebies: These are purely in-theme and will not be reversed until this MUSH decides to disregard Tolkien's writings completely.
Armour: For armour Dúnedain wear studded leather, leather, or a cloak. After you know which of this is the most IC for your character to wear, inform the LAs and they'll get it for you.
Weapons: We use longswords and longbows. If you would like either or both please tell the LAs. There are other weapons Dúnedain can use such as staffs or spears, but to be effective in combat we generally centralise our training on Longsword.
Traveling: Dúnedain do not travel all over the vast stretches of Middle-earth. The extent of the range, which you should not exceed unless involved in a TP cleared by the LAs, is SOUTH to the EDGE OF DUNLAND, NORTH as far as you like, EAST to the MISTY MOUNTAINS, and WEST to MITHLOND. As stated, any travel out of this range should be cleared with the LAs ans associated with a great need. Travel in the heart of the Shire is not recommended, only the fringes, unless passing through, but we would still then remain reasonably secretive and unsocial. Travel to Mithlond is as well kept partially on a solely TP basis, but exceptions are made. In all there are 7-8 culturse you will RP with in this area not including our own.
Horses: Horses should not be used when actively protecting and patrolling the Shire-Bree area as walking is easier. On longer trips and TPs horses can be used, again, clear it with the LAs. Exceptions are made for elderly Dúnedain.
Identity: Now, as you may already have guessed our identity remaining secret is crucial to our survival and is the reason that we are effective. The only people who would know our true identity would be the elves of Imladris in addition to various elves of the other homes, Mithlond prominent among them. AT and Loren would not be as well informed of this. Mentioning our heritage to anyone who doesn't know already is a no-no, even another elf. This may seem strange but if I have to make a cut rule I'll draw it at that. It's not that elves are evil, but some may not take care of the information as one might expect as to quite a few it is rather unimportant.
Etiquette: This section of the file will be added to quite often when more is thought of.
The elves of Imlad allow us to keep our arms in the valley as a measure of the trust they bear for the Dúnedain, but that does not mean you may go around brandishing your blade, either through the CS or your desc. Unless you're +training with them, you should +unwield. Restrain yourself from activity unbecoming of a ranger, as you are always on duty (go light on the wine, etc. though it's not as important in Imladris). Always keep in mind that there's probably someone you should notify before leaving any specific area (you'll notice you can travel quite a few places). Do not involve yourself in any 'policing' activity, helping victims is fine, but don't go around keeping the peace in Bree (they have a guard).
You should note these can be violated through RP, and if so, the consequences will be through RP. But don't say you didn't know you weren't supposed to, eh?
